It’s pretty clear Days Gone was going in that direction at one point, as evidenced by all the foraging and hunting gameplay, but it was never implemented in a meaningful way. Although I dug Deacon’s tattoos, I wanted a game with more survival elements. Personally, I lost interest in the game pretty quickly. The PC version is a hit, and players are enjoying getting stuck into some zomb- freaker horde action.
As of Alpha 16, price of wood spikes went from 100 to 20 wood. For better or worse - let’s face it, mostly worse - Days Gone has been in the news a lot this year. Wood Log Spikes became the cheap, viable alternative with a material cost of 20 wood. As of Alpha 15, Wood Spikes became much less practical as their price changed from 4 to 100 wood. As of Alpha 4, Wood Spikes must be placed on a solid Block. If you are staying in a house, a good strategy is to surround it by 3 layers of spikes. Be careful when placing them, as you will sometimes place them below yourself and damage yourself. They are really helpful when dealing with running zombies, as the spikes slow them down and now with Alpha 13 and the Dismemberment feature, they can make Zombies crawlers. They are an excellent defense for early game and can be implemented into late game strategies as well. The following recipes require Wood Spikes: (NOTE: Times are based on a level one skill and the material that an object is crafted from, which is only reliable for food at the moment, so is rather difficult to calculate, this table is auto-generated): Just search for Wood Spikes in your inventory crafting window and then select craft. Originally when repairing they would go through the 5 stages, as of Alpha 15.1 they now directly go to completely healed.
The degradation is evident in the item name: They begin to lose durability after being stepped on by players or zombies, and are eventually destroyed. Wood Spikes are crafted using 20 Wood as shown below. Wood Spikes are a trap used to defend structures by impaling zombies and/or players.
